Montana Hope Project Hosts Summer Reunion
Flashback to the 80s
Our 2024 Summer Reunion brought us back to the 80s, as we celebrated 40 years of granting wishes. Wish families enjoyed rides in patrol cars and Cory Janes’ sports car, as well as motorcycle and UTV rides. Saturday offered beautiful blue skies allowing attendees to enjoy cornhole, swimming, and other outdoor activities, but Mother Nature changed her tune come dinnertime and forced us back indoors.
Magic Rob and Ukelele Annie offered a close-up magic show and campfire sing along throughout the day, which was a hit amongst children and adults alike! Both offered loads of audience participation and Rob’s handmade campfire was the perfect addition to their set.
Following dinner, we busted a move with DJ HipHip Cheray Bentle. The music was flowing, and the dance floor was hoppin’!
JC Denton of JC Denton Photography was there to capture memories with his camera lens, and MHP Troopers and members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were dressed up and ready to pose with kids and families.
Wish “Kid,” Shemiah, shared her Hope Story before dinner and brought the entire house to tears. Thirty years ago, when Miah was only 5 years old, she was faced with a “grim prognosis.”
“Ewing’s Sarcoma had seized my body, its grasp tightening with each passing day. The bone tumor in my chest was massive when it was found. So large, in fact, that it encased my heart, had collapsed my left lung, spread mets to my right lung, and was quite literally sticking out of my chest wall. Without any warning, my five-year-old self was thrust into the fight of my life.”
Miah’s dream was to visit Kenya and see the Massai warriors, but her team of doctors didn’t think that was the best choice given the circumstances. She instead settled for Disney World, our most popular wish, and reminisced about the time spent with family- the laughter, the love, and the sheer joy of being together once again after traveling all over the US during her 2 years of intense medical treatment.
“The Montana Hope Project didn’t just grant me a wish; they gave us something priceless- the gift of bonding and renewed strength to keep fighting.”
Miah is thriving in 2024, doing all the things doctors told her she would never do, including raising her four beautiful boys. Thank you for sharing your inspirational story, Shemiah.
A heartfelt thank you to Fairmont Hot Springs Resort and all the people who continue to make these reunions incredible. We are better because of you!
